Lloyd Packer, Senior Warehouse Operative at the Fuller’s Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, is running the marathon for his best friend, Andy Hey, who passed away last year. Lloyd is helping to raise the funds for an all-weather, multi-sport area to honour and remember him.
Fuller’s London Pride is the Official Beer of the TCS London Marathon on 23rd April and as an employee at the Fuller’s Griffin Brewery, Lloyd Packer gained a place in the marathon.
Lloyd hasn’t just settled for running the marathon but breaking the record for the fastest person to run a marathon in a can costume.
This month he ran a record-breaking half marathon - the fastest runner dressed as a can at a half marathon. In March 2023, he ran the Surrey Half in 2 hours 2 minutes, beating the previous record of 2 hours 15 minutes and being featured in a local newspaper. Lloyd’s been running the races with his friend, Neil Clark, who will help him navigate the course’s potholes and terrain that can be hard to see from within a can costume.
His goal at the TCS London Marathon will be to beat an even higher target of a sub 4-hour time. That’s no mean feat for any runner, let alone when running in a can costume!
So let’s cheer on Lloyd and Neil and keep an eye out for that London Pride can as he whizzes around the course in April.
Lloyd Packer said: “Andy means the absolute world to me and we are doing this all for him, his family, friends and the school where he worked - to honour and remember him and create a positive legacy for future generations, building an all-weather, multi-sport area.
Dressed as a London Pride can, I’m hoping to raise awareness and funds along the way.
After breaking the half-marathon record in March and attempting the full marathon in April I think I’ll be ready to rest my legs for a little bit after this.”
