  • Sir Ian McGeechan, known for his emotive speeches, has delivered a new one-of-a-kind pep talk to fans at the famous Cabbage Patch pub ahead of the Premiership Rugby final
  • London Pride’s Pub Pep Talk gives nods to McGeechan’s famous ‘Be Special’ speech from the victorious Lions tour in 1997 and is designed to get fans supporting with pride

London, June 3: Legendary rugby coach Sir Ian McGeechan has created a special ‘Pub Pep Talk’ with London Pride to fire up fans and help get their team over the line at the Premiership Rugby final between Northampton Saints and Bath Rugby on 8th June at Twickenham.

The speech was first delivered to fans inside the famous Cabbage Patch pub on the last day of the season for fans to drive their teams on, and those at the final on June 8 will hear the same choice words to ensure they are ready to roar at kick-off.

Sir Ian’s new pep talk features nods to his iconic ‘Be Special’ speech delivered to the British Lions on their 1997 tour. The reworked script has been created in collaboration with London Pride and is designed to spark a similar reaction to when it was first spoken 27-years ago.

However, the speech is now intended for a different audience to the original – the fans, and has been refreshed to reflect how they can best support their teams with pride on match day:

With every tackle, every pass, every kick, they’ll look to you. When their heads are down, and their strength is fading, and their nerves are deserting them, they’ll look to you. And you’ll be there. A symbol of courage and strength, like the Griffin on your pint glass.”

Sir Ian McGeechan, former Scotland and Lions Head Coach said: “Support is the backbone of every good team and the support shown by fans plays such a pivotal role in a team’s success. I hope the new take on my speech from the ’97 British Lions inspires fans to give it their all at the Final, as they have no idea just how much impact it has.”

Rob Hobart, Marketing Director at Fuller's London Pride, added: "The Premiership Rugby Final is the biggest day in the club rugby calendar and we are here to help make it even more special for all fans by providing unforgettable London Pride experiences throughout the day. Sir Ian McGeechan certainly knows a thing or two about motivating a team and we’re in no doubt that his ‘Pub Pep Talk’ will give fans the inspiration they need to support their team with pride and enjoy a brilliant day out.”

London Pride - The Official Beer of Premiership Rugby - will provide an unparalleled fan experience within its fan village on match day by offering a variety of activities to keep visitors entertained and beer lovers’ thirst quenched. Located in the West Car Park, The London Pride Fan Village will open from 11.30am and allow fans to get their very own picture with the Premiership Rugby Winners Trophy, try their hand at the London Pride target game and most importantly, grab a pint to kickstart celebrations.
