Super Premium Beer business, Asahi UK Limited will see a new Managing Director take the helm from January 2018 as current Managing Director, Gary Haigh retires at the end of this year. Having spearheaded the growth of brands such as Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell and St Stefanus, Gary will be succeeded by Asahi UK Sales Director, Tim Clay.
Gary has overseen Asahi UK operations since 2011 and was instrumental in the sale of its Woking based business from SABMiller to Asahi Group Holdings in 2016. During his tenure, the UK business has achieved record revenues and profits year on year and his influence has cemented the company’s position as the UK’s leading Super Premium Beer business as well as redefining the beer category across UK and Ireland. Overseeing the Woking based business for over six and a half years and leading a workforce of nearly 200 employees, Gary led ground-breaking initiatives such as The House of Peroni as well as category defying innovations such as Peroni Piccola, Peroni Gluten Free and Peroni Ambra.
Tim Clay joined the UK business as Sales Director in 2013 and has consistently delivered outstanding year on year revenue growth. This has been achieved through improved customer engagement and enhancement of the sales function, through people development and the adoption of leading-edge sales tools. Prior to joining Asahi UK, Tim was the UK On-Trade and Wholesale Sales Director at ABInbev.
Commenting on his departure, Gary Haigh said: “I’m delighted to be handing over the reins of the business to Tim Clay who has been a key part of the team and achieved outstanding results during his time as Sales Director. It’s been fantastic to work with the company at such a critical time of its evolution and see how the brands have grown to be such an integral part of the premium British beer landscape.”
